JUNE 2018: BOOK LAUNCH "PLANT ETHICS: CONCEPTS AND APPLICATIONS"

The research project "New Directions in Plant Ethics", based at the Philosophy Department at the University of Vienna, has been engaged for the past three years in the exploration of the ethics of plants and their manipulation. The result is the publication of the volume Plant Ethics: Concepts and Applications (Routledge 2018), edited by the project team and showcasing a wide variety of approaches to the philosophy of plants from distinguished international scholars. | read more

We are very happy to present the book at the workshop "New Directions in Plant Ethics" at the EurSafe 2018 conference in Vienna (see below).

 

JUNE 2018: WORKSHOP "NEW DIRECTIONS IN PLANT ETHICS"

This workshop is part of the EurSafe 2018 congress - "Professionals in Food Chains - Ethics, Roles and Responsibilities" - which takes place from 13th to 16th June 2018 at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, Austria. The workshop is held on 13th June from 3.30 to 5.30 pm in the Banquet Hall of the University of Veterinary Medicine. It aims to present the the work of this research project, including the recently published volume "Plant Ethics: Concepts and Applications", edited by the project team (see above), and to explore in some detail issues relating to the production and consumption of plant foods. read more

 


JUNE 2017: CONFERENCE "THE FUTURE OF NATURAL HERITAGE"

The conference "The Future of Natural Heritage" explores various aspects of the enterprise of ensuring transfers of value and significance from the past and way into the future. It brings together distinguished environmental philosophers to discuss the unprecedentedly complex travails of the planet we made, and the next steps we could or should take. It focuses on philosophical analysis, but also aims at shaping concrete proposals for the future of natural heritage. MAY 2017: WORKSHOP "GARDEN ETHICS"

The workshop "Garden Ethics" explores gardens from different perspectives in philosophy, botany, gardening and landscape design in order to discuss their ethical dimensions. It takes place at the IWF, Berggasse 17, 1090 Vienna, on May 18. | read more

 

NOVEMBER 2016: WORKSHOP "PLANTS AND ROBOTS"

The workshop "Plants and Robots: New Directions in Relational Ethics" brings together the fields of plant ethics and robotics / philosophy of technology in order to explore relational perspectives in ethics. It is organized in collaboration with the Chair of Philosophy of Media and Technology (Univ.-Prof. Mark Coeckelbergh) at the Department of Philosophy, University of Vienna, on November 11. | read more
